Unlimited: The Symposium

On 4th September 2018, DPA co-hosted Unlimited: The Symposium which is part of the Unlimited Festival, an arts commissioning programme that enables new work by disabled artists to reach UK and international audiences, along with Access Path Productions. The event was attended by various representatives in the cultural sector in Singapore and was moderated by Dr Dawn-Joy Leong, an autistic artist-researcher. The evening kicked off with a screening of the Symposium that was taking place in the UK titled Art: How can disabled artists change the ‘mainstream’ arts sector? The session was hosted by Jo Verrent, Senior Producer for Unlimited and chaired by Andrew Miller, arts producer, programmer and executive. Speakers shared the various initiatives that were taking place in the arts and disability sector in the UK.

Following a coffee break, discussions about arts and disability in the Singapore context took place amongst the various cultural representative. Many poignant points were brought up about negotiating disability in the arts, current gaps and what are the actions that can be taken to address these gaps. DPA would like to thank all attendees for the engaging conversation that took place and looks forward to facilitating more of such engagements and advocating for disability inclusion amongst all interest groups.
